Whole-home versus partial backup

The first design decision is what you want backed up. Partial backup routes a chosen set of circuits — refrigerator, a few rooms, the internet rack, a medical device, one AC zone — into a protected loads subpanel. It is the most cost-effective way to make an outage survivable and is what most Valley homeowners choose with a single unit.

Whole-home backup keeps the entire main panel energized, which usually means stacking multiple Powerwalls so the combined output can start and run more than one air conditioner. We do the load math with you before quoting: compressor locked-rotor amps, well or pool pumps, electric ranges and dryers. Guessing at this is how homeowners end up with a battery that trips the moment the AC tries to start.

Stacking units and pairing with solar you already own

Powerwalls stack. Adding a second or third unit multiplies both stored energy and continuous output, which is what makes multi-day and whole-home operation realistic during a long August outage. We design the initial installation so a future unit can be added without redoing the wiring you already paid for.

You do not need MIBA-installed solar to get a Powerwall from us. Retrofits onto existing arrays are one of our most common jobs, including systems from companies that have since left the Valley or gone out of business. We inspect and re-commission the existing inverters, verify the interconnection is still compliant, and integrate the battery cleanly — whether your array is Enphase, SolarEdge, SMA, or Fronius.

How long will one Powerwall last? With a disciplined critical-loads design, commonly eight to twelve hours overnight, then it recharges from your array the next morning. Running central AC continuously off a single unit will drain it much faster — that is a two- or three-unit conversation.

What is the warranty? Powerwall carries Tesla's ten-year warranty, and MIBA covers the installation workmanship. Because we are local, service calls come from a Valley truck instead of an out-of-state dispatch queue.
