Roofers are not electricians, and electricians are not roofers. When you replace a roof with solar already on it, you need a team that knows how to safely detach, label, store, and reinstall the system — without voiding warranties or damaging panels.

Detach, store, and reinstall — done properly

When a roof under an existing array needs replacement, or a storm and insurance claim forces roof work, the panels have to come off and go back on. MIBA Energy performs solar panel removal and reinstallation as a standalone service, including for arrays we did not install and for homeowners whose original installer no longer exists.

The work is sequenced: system shutdown and lockout, electrical disconnect at the array and the inverter, panel removal in mapped order, racking and attachment removal, and clean sealing of every existing penetration so the roofers work on a dry, unobstructed deck. After the roof is complete, the racking is reset, flashing is reinstalled into the new roof, panels return to their mapped positions, and the system is re-energized and tested.

How we protect your equipment while it is off the roof

Panels are fragile in ways that are not obvious. Microcracks in the cells from careless handling do not show up visually — they show up as a production loss you may not notice for a year. Our crews carry modules with two people, never stack them face to face without protection, and never lean them against a wall where wind can take one down.

Modules are stored flat, padded, and covered in a secure location, on-site or at our facility, for the duration of the roof work. Every panel is labeled with its original position and every microinverter or optimizer serial is logged, so the array goes back exactly as it was mapped and monitoring still matches the physical layout after reinstall.

Keeping warranties and performance intact

A sloppy detach-and-reset is how homeowners silently void coverage. Reusing degraded flashing, drilling new holes in the fresh roof without proper sealing, over- or under-torquing lugs, or damaging a connector can compromise both the roof warranty and the array's electrical integrity — and manufacturers can deny claims for improper reinstallation.

We reinstall to manufacturer specification with new flashing and sealant, torque every mechanical and electrical connection to spec, replace weathered connectors and any UV-damaged wire management rather than reusing it, and document the work. Then we re-commission: string voltage and continuity tests, grounding verification, rapid shutdown function, inverter firmware, monitoring restoration, and a production check against pre-removal baseline so you have proof the system came back at full output.

Storm damage and insurance work

Much of this work follows hail or wind. We coordinate directly with your roofing contractor and your adjuster, and we provide itemized documentation of the removal and reinstall scope — the detail adjusters need, since a solar array is an insurable improvement and detach-and-reset is a legitimate covered cost on many claims.

While the array is off, we inspect what is normally hidden: deck condition beneath the mounts, prior leaks, corroded hardware, and near the coast, salt-driven degradation on rails and fasteners. If something needs attention it is dramatically cheaper to address while the roof is open than to discover it later.
